MACS (Magnetic-Activated Cell Sorting)

Often, fertility challenges are associated with women. However, nowadays, male fertility issues are in a similar proportion to those affecting women.

In the case of men, semen quality plays a crucial role in the quest for pregnancy.

Advancements in Reproductive Medicine allow us to select high-quality sperm to increase the chances of fertilizing the patient’s egg. Techniques like MACS (Magnetic Activated Cell Sorting) help us eliminate sperm with abnormalities and choose those of better quality.

For this procedure, we use biodegradable magnetic particles (annexin VI) that facilitate the binding of sperm and a filtration process through magnetic columns, leaving only healthy sperm.

When is this technique recommended?

For men over 45 years old.
In cases of infertility of unknown origin.
In the presence of varicoceles.
For patients with a history of exposure to toxic substances.
After chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatments.
In previously treated chronic seminal infections.
For couples with a history of recurrent miscarriages.
