Embryo freezing by vitrification

Embryo freezing by vitrification

When a patient prepares to start assisted reproductive treatment, they are given medication to stimulate the production of high-quality eggs. This increases the chances of obtaining viable eggs for fertilization in our laboratories during extraction.

During treatment, not all embryos obtained are often transferred, allowing the option to cryopreserve them in our own cryobanks at URCrea for future use in case of desiring another pregnancy.

What is the success rate?

Our results show that the pregnancy rates with thawed embryos and fresh embryos are very similar. At URCrea, we use the vitrification technique for embryo freezing.

This ultra-rapid freezing technique prevents the formation of ice crystals within the cells, preserving embryo viability without any damage.

The success rate in our vitrification cases exceeds 50%, a percentage equal to that of fresh embryos.
